Kakz Unia
The male collapsed down onto the small pond, drinking his fill. It had been too long since he had been at fresh water, barley being able to stomach the muddy slush that the melting snow had produced. Lapping up the fresh water, Kakz swivelled his dark head as he heard something approach from behind him, his emerald eyes adjusting sharply to the rapidly fading that was covering the earth around him. He peered awkwardly at the approaching shape, then smirked as he realised that the sound that was approaching him were the soft crunching footsteps of an old male deer. Fresh meat, and clean water. It was too easy. Taking a step forward, Kakz froze. It wasn't that he sensed something around him, it was something internal that made him stop his advancement on the now fairly startled deer.
It was like..he had shut down. Staggering backwards on himself, Kakz tucked his tail and hunkered down. With a sharp pang he realised that he simply didn't have enough energy to take down the deer. Lowering his head down to peer at his reflection, he saw why. Even though the greys on his coat created a majestic harmony, they where all tattered and torn, unclean and wild looking. His face had shrunk back in on himself, and, after a quick look around himself, he saw several extremely thin rib bones worryingly close to the surface of his pelt. Snarling at his own body, he turned back to the water. Perhaps he could gather enough fluids here, wound the animal, and follow it until it bled to death? There would be no honour in a kill like that, but there was no-one around to honour him, plus, he needed anything he could get right now. As he drew gaze with the water, he saw another reflection had joined him. That of the deer.
Kakz flashed a glare to his side, peering at the animal. Did it have a death wish? Inhaling slowly, and closing his eyes, Kakz tried to gather in something, anything, that would enable him to strike out at this creature, and bring it down. Leaping forward, Kakz growled, and yelped, falling forwards onto the flat muddy ground. He lay there, still and eyes closed, out of disappointment and embarrassment. It was a deer, for Gods sake. He couldn't even touch it. It was shameful. Turning back to the water, Kakz began to slowly flick bits of water into his maw, he was too tired to even move. The deer snorted happily, drank its fill, and left, fast switching from a brown blur in the foliage to a solid memory.
Kakz lay on the earth, resting. The air was gnawing at him, and every breath of wind seemed like a million ants were crawling on him, biting down into his thin flesh. He even thought he would die here. It seemed like the easy thing to do. No effort involved. Just to lie here and die. At least it would be warmer than here. A cackle to his flank made Kakz start. Lolling his head over, he peered at what seemed to be a pair of birds, perhaps Ravens, or Crows. Were they anticipating a feast? The male growled. He refused to let himself become a meal for someone below the food chain. Not a chance. He would stand tall, and defend himself, maybe even be devouring the flesh of one of the feathered intruders. Clawing himself to his feet, Kakz shook, but held firm. Inhaling deeply in a futile effort to stop the world spinning around him, he held firm. Staggering forward as if he had been poisoned, Kakz proceeded to do anything to either get the birds away, or catch, kill and eat them. It turns out they could fly. The birds too to the skies, leaving a demoralised Wolf behind. Scowling, Kakz turned, to see something terrible.
The deer was back, but this time, he was joined by about a two dozen more, male, female, young, old, all of them sipping merrily at the pond Kakz had discovered. Sprinting forward, Kakz could hardly believe what he was doing until the deer scattered. Collapsing on the ground, the deer simply ran back, and began to sip around the water, a natural predator inches away from them, but powerless.
”I give up..” muttered the wolf, and resigned himself to his fate, whatever it may be. |

Valajace Anstidante
Vala ran wildly from the blur of mush flying off his paws. He had bulked up a bit, though with little kill and many frustrations, Vala needed a big kill. A deer crossed up ahead, and Vala was immediately locked. He streamed right towards it, Vala let his mouth fall wide. His pace, quicker by the second, anticipating the clash of the two mammals regardless of the outcome. The deer seemed spooked, and very old. A perfect catch. Vala snarled last minute as he leaped diagonally for the throat, making contact right in the thickest of the middle of the deer's neck. He sunk his teeth in, curling into a ball to avoid injury. The deer stumbled and fell. Before the light went out of the prey's eyes, Vala ripped open the stomach and began a warm, bloody feast. The animal cried, sharp and painfully with a spastic lift of it's head. The sound dulled slowly as the large head fell, blood dripping from its nose and mouth, and the eyes went empty.
Vala shivered with pleasure. It had been so long since he had heard the utter cry of death. The cry its self was enough to make someone stop and think, but to Vala, it meant another meal well caught. Trembling, Vala journeyed to the creature's eye, and crunched down, through the eye, to the bone. Crushing his way through the hard material, it was absolutely the best sensation in a while. Soft tangy marrow was dug out with Vala's tongue. He was almost to the point of purring with soft growls. How could anything be more fun than a large kill? So much meat, and so many bones..
After Vala had more than his share, he was thoroughly covered in blood. Like every other kill, Vala rolled into the animal's blood as a mark of what he had killed. Slowly walking with a small smile on his face, he came upon a lake. He hadn't seen one of these since....ever! Vala ran up and marveled at the huge collection of water. He lapped as much up as he could, noticing fresh hoofprint everywhere. He looked up to see an almost lifeless wolf a little to his right. As much as he ate wolf in the past, he only enjoyed its nourishment. He rolled his eyes,"Look, I've already eaten lunch, and there's more about two hundred feet away.." He would just as easily put the wolf out of its misery, but it laying there, so scrawny, reminded Vala of his brother before Vala had eaten his first wolf. Vala regurgitated his lunch and lapped up some more water. Showing no emotion, he looked at his subject from the corner of his eyes."Eat, drink, and sleep. I'll be back by the time you wake up to make sure your OK." Vala turned, and walked back towards his prey.[/b] |

Kakz Unia
Kakz lay idly on the freezing cold ground, his back aching, legs twitching and brain smashing itself off the side of his skull. Or that's what it felt like, anyway. He listened as he inhaled, his lungs rattling as they took in precious oxygen. He then watched as he exhaled, seeing his breath materialize in front of him, in the form of a small cloud. He smiled in spite of himself as the small cloud rose up towards the bright sky, blending in with the air around it, and then eventually dissipating to pure nothingness. This made him wonder. What would happen to him when he died. Was he actually going to die here? He certainly still felt like it. There was a gnawing disappointment biting at him, deep down. It seemed like an easy way out, didn't it? Like he was giving up. Like, all his ancestors had survived long enough to re-produce, all the way up to his mother and father. Why should he effectively commit suicide by letting himself starve to death? It seemed too easy...
While he was contemplating this, something changed. There was a loud snap, and a cry. Then a silence. Kakz urged himself to move. There was probably something around here that wasn't too friendly. Probably a mountain lion. Dear Gods, he was going to get eaten alive via mountain lion?! Well, it was better than crow, he supposed. Ears pricked, he strained himself to listen for something, anything, but he heard nothing, for the wind was blowing fiercely and he couldn't muster enough energy to move anything but his head, and even that was restricted to maybe six inches up.. Then, out of seemingly nowhere, like it had floated in from the wind, there was a sickening retching sound, and then a voice spoke to him. Sharp, and from behind. It was most defiantly a male, and it was drowned in audible pity for Kakz. He knew he wasn't expecting much. He could thank everything that this male had found him. The the smell of something hit his nose. Food.
Food! Lifting his head with an almighty effort, Kakz threw himself at the smell, landing maw first in a pile of recently swallowed meat. Deer, maybe? He didn't care, and he began to tuck in, chomping away masterfully at the pool of nourishment, not caring that it had been inside someone else a few moments ago. It was warm, it was tasty, and one of its many smells was delicious. Rolling onto his back, Kakz once again dunked his face into the lake, washing off the residue of his donated meal, and gulping down as much liquid as he could. The cold water stung at his nose and eyes, but at least he could feel things now. He could even wiggle his toes. That was a nice feeling. Ripping back out of the water, he tried to stand, but it was impossible. So the male flopped back down onto his forepaws, and began to snooze, fading in and out of this world and his own dreams. |

Vala Dante
After re-eating lunch, Vala found hiself back at the other brute's side. He was sitting, waiting for him to wake up. Just sitting, staring into the forever whitness of slush.
Vala thought about his life as Jace Dante. It was like a split personality. He was shy and weak, afraid of consequences, and believed in fairy tales. He was soft hearted, and cared for the ones who noticed him. Jace Dante was vulnerable, but also desireable. Now, Vala Ansticific, was a completely different story. A theiving, lying, raping, canniblistic beast. Not afraid to die, kill, or curse the gods. He was the cold hearted moster that killed his dad. Somehow, Jace always found comfort in Vala. Vala was cold, sly, and cunning. He wasn't afraid to do whatever it took to live, no matter how shameful. Vala, always found comfort in Jace. Jace was kind, honorable, and had actually felt love. The two halves, night and day, strived for the other. Vala was like an older sibling, although born December, year 18, and Jace as a younger one even though born in April, year 17. How, can the same person be born twice, once by his mother, the next by his father?
Jace was born by his mother, after a year, he had eaten all of his family besides his dad. He had grown weak from hunger, and Jace's dad offered his life to save him. He told Jace, knowing the rough path ahead, to only answer to Vala Ansticific until he reached the promise land.
Well, here he was, in the promise land, but something about him couldn't just drop all his sins, all the lives he took, all the wolves he decieved. He couldn't go back to being the innocent Jace Dante.. So, what if he combined names? Vala-Jace Ansticific-Dante...hmm Valajace Anstidante..? It had sort of a ring, and Vala-jace liked it.
A small movement shocked Valajace out of thought. Oh yeah, the kid.. He wasn't really a kid, but meh, Valajace wasn't about to argue with himself. The kid seemed content now, at least for now. Valajace wondered why he helped this one wolf, after killing and eating so many others. No, he didn't regret it, the food was there, so why not? Valajace shrugged. This place was already sofening him back into the Jace side of him. He felt like it was a bad thing, but a good thing at the same time. Valajace was confused a bit, but he had bigger things to handle right now. |

-=Cynbal Fosquer=-
Red and Black. Red and Black. Cyn's jade-green eyes caught the flash of her forelimbs as she loped across the terrain. Her ruddy coat was a flashy beacon of color on this desolate landscape, and couple with her striking black forelimb and ebon ears, she was difficult to miss. The winter had treated her well, providing enough to support her growth over the frigid months. She was indistinguishable from an adult, now...save the flash of mischievious youth in her green depths. Ducking her ears against her carmine skull, Cynbal halted...
Her dark nose quivered. Blood. Fur. A kill? Twin peaks of ebony sprouted above her raised brows, and she grazed the earth with a sweep of her muzzle...circling. Yes...there! A fresh kill, and just beyond that thicket up ahead it seemed. She could barely detect the gleam of water...and the lingering scent of two other presences. Wary, Cyn flicked her white-tipped tail in an agitated moment of debate. She was hungry, and there was very chance that those wolves up ahead were the likable sort...
Red shoulders twitched in a shrug. Best to err on the side of caution. Cyn slinked 'round to the left, flanking the thicket in order to bring her up on the far side, with a thick screen of brambles to hide her. |
